"About Higurashi no Naku Koro ni"
It was produced by Studio Deen and directed by Chiaki Kon, covers the four question arcs as well as the first two answer arcs. The original Higurashi no Naku Koro ni anime adaptation aired in Japan between April 4, 2006 and September 26, 2006, comprising 26 episodes. There will be a second series based on one new story arc and the final two original answer arcs of the franchise entitled Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai. It is scheduled to air in Japan on July 11, 2007.
Here is a fan quote I received on the Feedback form, "Higurashi is an anime that keeps the viewer thinking. It is divided into several arcs. Every arc is related to each other, but the viewer does not receive any answers until the answer arcs show up and begin to tie everything together. There is graphic imagery and blood, and admittedly some of the scenes are so sugar coated that I felt as if I gained five cavities, but it was well worth it. The show is addicting. The first episode may be a turn off for some people, but I highly suggest watching more." (slightly edited to remove spoilers).
Spoiler Warning!! [+/-] Show/Hide Synopsis...
In Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, there are five main characters who appear in almost every scenario. The main protagonist is Keiichi Maebara, a young boy who has recently moved to Hinamizawa with his family, and begun to adapt to life in the countryside. Keiichi has a natural charisma which allows him to make friends easily. Since Hinamizawa is a small town of about two thousand people, with only a single school, there are not many children around his own age; he easily meets the others his age and becomes friends with them.
One of these good friends is a girl his age named Rena Ryugu. She, like him, is new in Hinamizawa, having only lived there for a year before the story begins. She has an obsession with things she considers to be cute - generally, others don't agree - and will often scavenge for such things at the local dump and bring them back home. Before she met Keiichi, Rena became friends with a girl one year older named Mion Sonozaki, who is looked at as the leader of the group and is the president of their club. Mion has a tomboyish personality, a facade for a girlish side she keeps hidden from the others. Mion has a twin sister, Shion, who lives in the nearby town of Okinomiya. Although their personalities are quite different, she and Mion have switched places in the past; the change is nearly indistinguishable.
There are two other girls in the club younger than Keiichi, Rena and Mion. One is Satoko Hojo, a clever girl who is quite skilled at setting traps when playing games with her friends. She usually has an energetic and mischievous personality, but this hides a past full of trauma. Satako also had an older brother named Satoshi. Her friend, Rika Furude, is revered by the villagers as the heir of the local shrine and plays the role of a miko in the annual Watanagashi Festival. Despite her young age, she sometimes expresses a type of wisdom which would normally be beyond her years, and is quite fond of sake.
Of the remaining cast, there are those such as Kuraudo Ōishi, a veteran police officer who is dead set on solving the mystery of the yearly murders that occur in Hinamizawa before his retirement. A freelance photographer, named Jirō Tomitake, comes to Hinamizawa occasionally; he seems to be friends with Miyo Takano, a female nurse at the local village clinic who has a keen interest in Hinamizawa's past and culture. She works with Kyōsuke Irie, the head doctor of the clinic who has a severe maid fetish.
There are additional characters not seen in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni proper, who appear in the side-story manga adaptations. In Onisarashi-hen, the main character is a young girl with a bright personality named Natsumi Kimiyoshi, who has just moved away from Hinamizawa. In Yoigoshi-hen, the main character is a man with amnesia named Akira Otobe, who was found wandering in the forest around the deserted Hinamizawa many years later.

Lolz i watched the anime already i say its quite psycho xD with i like the part of the Crucify~ but the part where the girl was crying isint suited for me lolz~
This is definetly the one and only anime that well and truly scares the shit out of me... I watched the first two episodes on Youtube and regret it to this day. Not that it's so bad that I can't watch it, but it's so terrifying that I can't watch it. You'd never think that such cute girls could turn out to be such psychos... but I guess that what makes this awesome.
BTW: Wouldn't an 18+ warning be appropriate for this, considering it's misleading concept?
I've already watched all the episodes on youtube and i have to say this anime is one of the best I've seen in a long time it always kept me guessing i would defentaly recommend watching this you won't regret it.
its really amazing,im so happy that one of the animes i suggested are finally up :D:D oh mannn this shit is fucking creepy as hell. never watch it in the middle of the night in a dark room where everything makes messed up shadows and theyre talking about "oyashiro sama's curse" ugh, so freaking SCARY but i love it LOVE IT!! and yes, an 18+ warning would be very appropriate cuz it starts of sweet but gets really bloody and gory with the dismemberment...

I never get scared of anything, i ussualy laugh at movies and anime thats supposed to me bloody, but god dam when i saw this one i had a big ass smile LMAO! THIS SHIT IS GREATE SOMETHING THAT MADE ME LAUGH IS GOOD IN MY BOOK I LOVE IT dam the killing is beutiful in this one recomend for sure, but not to little kids should be 21+ LOL!
I loved this anime. It is definitely psychotic and horrific. It was one of the best anime that I have ever seen. It is definitely not recommended for those under 18.
I watched the whole series and i was a bit disappointed.
First some little storys but to short for real tension, then some plot clearing storys but in the end just like a creepy Groundhog Day Movie and
only Rika knows the truth of everything.
result: friendship over all ^^
haha everyones putting that you should be 18 or older, but half the people that are gonna watch this are under 18 haha! im 17 and i dont really care about those dumb rules, it shouldnt be that you have to be 18+, it should be if you have the balls to watch it!
Nope, I can't stop anyone to view it. The 18+ is more like saying, "If you worship Pokemon, then stay away from this anime", "You've gotta be mentally stable to watch it", and "Don't ever send me the bills for your shrinks".
I like this anime, too - I've seen it a while ago and I still think it is addicting and so is the opening song :P
I love it and the best part is that it is not like other animes. It really keeps you thinking and the question and answer arcs really do their job :)
So after all, I just can recommend it and wish you a stable mind and much fun watching this ;)
I love this anime, the best part is the killings... especially the torture part.
I say hell to the 18+...I like watching Poke'mon and and love watching these kinda videos...and im barely 14!
This anime scare the shit outta of me...when i watch like 6 episodes...I started thinking if people are really like that around here...
I do not reccomended this to sissies especially those who get scared easily

My friend found this anime amazing, but I found it alright. It was kind of wierd, for someone like me who doesn't use her brain much :] The gory stuff is cool though. Maybe pixelated spooks don't get to me ^^
well, i loved this anime, i think anitube shuld get more of this wonderful [18+] stuff's!! this is one of the best anime i ever watched!
Flippin GREAT ANIME!!! Wow...it goes to show what a little originality can do. I loved this anime...not because the of the blood and guts (of course that was nice) but because it made you think. All of the question arcs made you crazy cause you had no idea was was going on..yet you couldnt stop watching...then the answer arcs that leave you blown away. Fuxing great stuff.
After I got done with this anime (2 days) I sat in bed just tripping out on the plot...shiet...good stuff.
